Due to President Obama's coincidental visit to the Port of Miami today afternoon to address on the current economy and impact of the port on job creation (as can be seen from a digital sign on the side) , we had to checkin to our cruise ship before noon or we would not be allowed into the port until 3PM.
Minutes away from our terminal the cruise ship's Funnel shows up majestically before our shuttle driver Marion drops Sudhir's and our family at the port.

As our 70,000 tone ship hurtles along the ocean at 15 knots to Bahamas to make up for the delayed departure, the solitude of the ocean outside our 7th floor stateroom window at 11:30 PM in the night when others were already asleep, embodies both pristine beauty and fear at the same time. The single dot of light at the top must be Venus and the faint dot of light to the left part of the horizon is from another ship several miles away which is the only immediate sign of human life outside our vessel .

We had some more time for ocean fun as our shuttle was not supposed to be here for the next 45 min
While the ocean with its delightful greenish tinge seems very unassuming and comfy, like the Great White shark that looks very graceful but is in fact dangerous, this ocean had some real rough surf one of which took Nishka by surprise and Krishna Prasad had to hold onto her.

On the penultimate day of our cruise called as the 'Fun Day at Sea' when the Ship deliberately goes a longer route to take more time enroute to Miami, we spent time at Carnival Waterworks on the top deck while in the middle of the ocean with no protection from the sizzling Sun from any side. With Rishma. Trying to budge her from there failed. Finally Nishka got her to slide on a smaller water slide.
When the Sun was finally close to setting at 6:45 PM and all other sunbathers had gone to the lower decks for other activities on the ship ranging from comedy clubs, to casinos, to dance floors, to bars, to restaurants, to shops, to the comfort of their staterooms, to help their kids with easter egg hunts , to watch dance shows or just chill out in the atrium, Nim did not mind spending some time on the sunbathers chair on the Verandah deck as there was not more Sun to risk sun-burns.
After completing all the debarking formalities, catching the shuttle, making a stop over at LaQinta inn to pick up stuff we had forgotten when checking out from there to Miami on Mar 29, we were safely in Fort Lauderdale airport and hour and 45 minutes prior to our boarding time. At Durham / Raleigh, it was surprising to see our baggage come out first from the cargo section even as we were still waiting to debark the flight and see a baggage hander adjust it on the trailer to be transported to our connecting flight to Newark
After Nishka and Rishma enjoy Hot Chocolate at a Starbucks in Durham Raleigh airport where we had a 3 hour wait. they also get to view the flights taking off on the runway
